Text: 2 Kings 2:9 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
Elijah asked “Ask what I shall do for thee” Be careful what you volunteer.
John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Job 42:10 And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.
Job received twice as much because he was faithful.
1 Corinthians 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you.
When you commit your life to Christ, the spirit if God indwells in you.
Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
The Holy Ghost is the spirit of God. God’s power is not limited.
John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth.
God’s spirit gives us direction for our lives.
John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever.
We have peace of mind and contentment when we submit to Christ.
John 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
We cannot have the fruit of the spirit without having the spirit.
John 15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
When we abide in God’s spirit, we have more than the fruit of his spirit. We can ask what we will and he will give it to us.
John 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
Jesus said in John 15:12 “This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.”
Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law
Elisha lived on an even keel. There is no record of him ever complaining or being down in spirit.
